What does Bell mean on a schedule? ›

In schools, a typical bell schedules might look like this:

San Dimas High School was founded in the fall of 1970 to serve the city of San Dimas. The school began with eighth grade, freshman and sophom*ore classes and had its first graduating class in the spring of 1973. The mascot is the Saint (Saint George and the Dragon) and the school colors are royal blue and bright gold.

San Dimas High School is proud of its rich athletic history. Today, SDHS offers sports teams for boys and girls in 13 different sports. Interscholastic, CIF competitions are held throughout the year; SDHS is a member of the Valle Vista League.

San Diego High has a rich history, dating back to 1882 when it opened its doors as Russ School. This eight-room, two story building was built with lumber donated by the Hon. Joseph Russ. In 1888, a gymnasium was built, but was soon after moved to University Heights to become a grammar school.

Since school is mandatory for six-year-old students, parents and guardians must enroll their children in school once they reach the age of six (EC Section 48200). It is a local decision, with parental input, whether the six-year-old student will be enrolled in kindergarten or first grade.

California's first-in-the-nation law, which requires that high school classes start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and middle schools not before 8 a.m., took effect last school year. Florida overwhelmingly passed a law this year with similar requirements, which schools must meet by July 2026.
