Jackson. Longview Fire Marshal Davis Whitehurst said firefighters responded to a call of a fire at 912 Jordan St. at about 1 a.m. Saturday. They found the front part of the house fully engulfed in flames.
"Because it was a lifethreatening situation, the firefighters used a quick attack," Whitehurst said. A quick attack is when firefighters don't wait on additional units to arrive before looking for people who might be caught in the fire. "Three firefighters tried to go in the front room but it was said. "They then looked through a back bedroom window and saw him slumped over by a bed. They broke in a window and pulled him out through the window." Whitehurst said paramedics administered CPR to Jackson while he was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center.
He died about an hour later at the hospital. Preliminary autopsy results received by Whitehurst late Monday afternoon indicated Jackson died from smoke inhalation. Sunday editions of the Longview News-Journal reported Jackson was found in the house when firefighters used a thermal imaging camera, but that was incorrect. Environmentalists ask appeals court to overturn Houston's clean air plan HOUSTON (AP) Environmentalists and business leaders asked a federal appeals court Monday to review a state pollution plan to bring the Galveston region into compliance with national ozone standards by 2007 as required by the federal Clean Air Act. The groups cite different reasons for their appeals in a total of five petitions submitted to the 5th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. They say the plan to bring the area with one of the worst smog problems in the nation into compliance is ambitious but flawed, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday in its online edition. The petitions each cite different problems in the plan as reasons the court should set aside approval on the plan. The petitions were filed by the Sierra Club, Environmental Defense, the National Resources Defense Council, the GalvestonHouston Association for Smog Prevention, the Galveston Bay Conservation and Preservation Association, and the Business Coalition for Clean Air Appeal Group, a 12-member spin-off of the Greater Houston Partnership.
