The best skills to use and invest in to level up will depend on your preferred playstyle, but a few key spells will likely be staples in any build. With two weapons equipped you have over 38 different skills to choose from, along with multiple enhancements to said skills, it can feel daunting to select the best ones.
Staff Weapon Combination Tier List
Of the six weapons available as secondary weapon options, each offers the ability to customize it however you like. Let's rank each of your options based on the criteria below.
Regardless of which you choose for your main hand or off-hand, the weapon's passive skills are active for that weapon's skill unless otherwise stated. You can freely swap to either weapon for your auto-attacks.
Ranking Criteria
- Overall Damage: Single target, burst, sustained, and AoE.
- Survivability: Healing, damage mitigation, movement, and crowd control.
- Synergy: How well these weapons' active and passive skills complement each other.
Tier | Combo | Reason |
---|---|---|
S | Wand | Invocator: Ranged DPS with potentially the strongest AoE weapon combo. Excellent area crowd control and also has access to decent healing and defensive skills. Passive skills that work to boost both types of damage. |
Longbow | Liberator: Ranged DPS with a range of slow, hard-hitting burst and quick sustained damage. Access to healing abilities gives great self-sustain or supplementary party heals. | |
A | Daggers | Spellblade: Ranged DPS with great damage with more of a focus on mobility and tactical fights. Generally played at a distance allowing the daggers' skills to improve staff damage while also getting access to much-needed mobility. |
Crossbow | Battleweaver: Ranged DPS with good single target and AoE capabilities. Has decent active and passive skill synergies to deal more damage. | |
B | Sword and Shield | Disciple: Tank that struggles to find its footing, lower overall damage and isn't particularly strong at either ranged damage or damage mitigation. |
C | Greatsword | Sentinel: Hybrid DPS that provides minimal if any synergies between the two weapons. |
Stat Priorities
The Staff is generally played as a ranged damage dealer. Regardless of which weapon you choose, you'll want to focus on getting Dexterity to 30 first, followed by 30 in Wisdom or Strength.
Assign points to reach specific breakpoints, 30 points in a particular stat gives extra bonuses, any additional points allocated cost more.
- Dexterity provides Damage, Crit Chance, Evasion, and Attack Speed.
- Wisdom provides Damage, Cooldown Speed, and Mana Regen.
- Strength provides Max Health and Max Mana.
- Perception provides minor boosts that are more important for end-game PvP.
For your equipment, don't worry too much about which stats you have on your gear. After crafting a full set of Uncommon green gear, upgrade it to max, and transfer those into Rare blue gear and then upgrade these to max.
Once you start obtaining Epic purple gear, you'll need to solidify exactly what role and weapon combo you want to play, as it becomes very costly to change. This can also drastically change depending on if you want to PvE or PvP.
