Solo Sikoa Is Not Ready For A WWE Championship Feud With Cody Rhodes (2024)

Highlights

  • Solo Sikoa's push as a WWE star feels forced and lacks credibility.
  • Despite potential, Solo Sikoa hasn't impressed with memorable matches.
  • A feud with Cody Rhodes is predictable, highlighting Sikoa's lack of readiness for a main event spotlight.

After Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship in an “I Quit” match against AJ Styles at the 2024 Clash at the Castle event, the interim leader of The Bloodline, Solo Sikoa, emerged to face off with the champion. Sikoa has been presented as a big deal in the last few months, and has been pushed as the top heel on SmackDown since WrestleMania 40. All signs point towards this being the next WWE Title program, but there is a big argument to make that Sikoa is not yet ready for that sort of spotlight, and there are several reasons for this.

WWE Have Been Trying To Make Solo Sikoa A Star For Years

Solo Sikoa Doesn't Feel Like A Top WWE Star

  • Since his NXT days, Solo Sikoa has shown a lot of potential
  • Solo Sikoa was the heavy to Roman Reigns
  • Solo Sikoa is the leader of the new Bloodline

Ever since his days in NXT, it has been very clear that Solo Sikoa has the potential to be a star in WWE. However, he is not there yet. His main roster debut and subsequent two years on RAW and SmackDown have seen him mostly act as a sidekick and heavy to Roman Reigns, often falling into the background and not doing all too much to stand out. His role as the repetitive interference-maker in Reigns' matches became tiresome, and it felt as though it was halting Sikoa’s momentum. He has had some peaks here and there, but nothing ever concrete.

Why WWE NXT In 2024 Is The Best The Brand Has Ever Been

Fans loved NXT's Black and Gold era, but despite being hated at first, the new era of WWE's third brand has been the most successful.

Like many over the years, WWE are very clearly priming Sikoa to be a star. He is a priority right now, being pushed as the focus on WWE SmackDown as a heel, leading the new version of The Bloodline. This is a case of a push feeling forced though, as Sikoa’s ascent to the top hasn’t felt natural. He is supposedly in the position right now that Roman Reigns left absent, but he has not been able to fill those shoes. If he is to become a top star in WWE, it isn’t happening right now.

Solo Sikoa Has Failed To Impress When Given The Chance In WWE

Solo Sikoa Hasn’t Had Many Big Event Matches

  • Soloa Sikoa has never had a memorable singles match in WWE
  • His win over John Cena did nothing to benefit Solo Sikoa
  • The new Bloodline does not have the desired aura that Roman Reigns did

Whilst Solo Sikoa has often been a tool to give Roman Reigns cheap wins, he has been granted some opportunities. He main evented the 2023 Money in the Bank and Night of Champions PLEs in tag team action, he destroyed John Cena at Crown Jewel, and he recently had a big match at Backlash against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens. None of these matches and moments have been especially memorable though, and when you take a look at his list of PLE bouts, he has not earned the right to be fighting a world champion. In fact, Sikoa has not had one truly strong or memorable singles match in his entire WWE run so far, and his best matches have all been tag team contests.

When it comes to potential stars and future world champions, fans can clearly see those who have potential and an instant impact. For instance, Bron Breakker has clearly looked like a star from day one, and he is already carrying himself on the main roster in a much more noticeable way than Sikoa has ever done. Some of this could be put down to Sikoa’s talents, but more blame should be put on WWE’s booking, as his build hasn’t been consistent enough or solid enough to justify him being put in a main event singles program.

A Feud With Cody Rhodes Is Painfully Predictable

Cody Rhodes’ WWE Championship Run Won’t End To Solo Sikoa

  • No one expects Solo Sikoa to win the WWE Championship
  • Solo Sikoa doesn't have the credibility to be WWE Champion yet
  • Cody Rhodes’ star power blows Solo Sikoa out of the water

Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa is not a match which screams “money” or “excitement”. It looks likely that Sikoa will find himself in a WWE Championship match at some point, likely on a PLE card, but going into the match there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that it will be Rhodes walking out as champion. This comes down to Sikoa’s lack of strong presentation and the fact that his latest iteration has lacked the desired “aura”, much like his new Bloodline allies. The whole thing feels weaker than previous iterations, and despite WWE’s commentary hyping them up and Paul Heyman’s stunning performances, the act hasn’t been booked as the strong badasses many are making them out to be.

Many expected Roxanne Perez to lose to Jordynne Grace at NXT Battleground, but instead she showed why WWE believes in The Prodigy.

Many are just twiddling their thumbs until Roman Reigns returns to breathe life back into The Bloodline, which just goes to show how uninteresting Sikoa’s recent trajectory has been. There is no denying that with the right booking, Sikoa could be much better, but as of right now, he is just not at the level WWE wants him to be. The fact that Rhodes vs. Sikoa will be one of the most predictable world title matches of the year is proof enough that the younger name is not ready for this sort of spotlight or feud.
