Colorful, portable, and irresistible; Chocolate Peanut Butter Puppy Chow.
I think summer is probably my favorite season, butmy husband’s infectious love for fall has started to wear off on me. He grew up in Michigan, where fall is ubiquitous with adventures to the apple orchard, fiery landscapes, and near perfect weather. And of course, fall brings another one of my favorite traditions: football season.

On this point, I’m happy to say my infectious love of Ohio has worn off on my husband. We both await the first game of the year with thesame level of anticipation an 8 year old has for Christmas morning. I’m tempted to make a paper chain.
Thankfully, we live in Columbus, where feverish love for football is a part of the culture. This also means there’s no shortage of viewing parties to attend on the weekends.
There’s only one thing I like better than getting together with friends to watch a game, and it’s getting together with friends to watch a game AND stuff my face with party foods.
I love football watching foods. Chocolate Covered Pretzels sporting our team’s colors. Yes. Cheesy dips and spicy chili? Sign me up. Meat candy and pulled beef sliders? I am so on board. and the bowl of Chocolate Peanut Butter Puppy Chow? PASS IT OVER.
Puppy chow is one of my all time favorite party foods. It’s ridiculously simple to make,a huge hit with crowds, and perfect for grabbing by the handful while you nervously wait to see whether your team will make the next 3rd down conversion.
I decided to amp up my favorite party mix, by adding more chocolate and peanut butter (never a bad idea) swapping in some chocolate cereal, adding some crunchy salty pretzels, and then tossing in some game day themed M&M’S®.
I like to call this my Buckeye Puppy Chow because it’s full of chocolate and peanut butter flavor, and because, of course, it’s the mascot for my favorite team.
If you’re looking for a quick way to up the ante at your football party, the M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies Game Day Mix definitely fit the bill. Stamped with mini helmets, goal posts, and footballs, they winthe award for cutest game day chocolate.
No one will be sad if you place a few bowls of them out on the coffee table for munching, but of course, I think they’re even better if you toss them into this crunchy puppy chow. I used a mix of the peanut and milk chocolate M&M’S® to addtexture and crunch.

Ingredients
- 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips (1 12 ounce bag)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups corn chex cereal
- 4 cups chocolate chex cereal
- 2 1/2 cups square pretzels (broken into small pieces)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup M&M’S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies Game Day Mix
- 3/4 cup M&M’S® Brand Peanut Chocolate Candies Game Day Mix
Instructions
In a microwave safe bowl or double boiler, melt the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter together until smooth. Stir in the vanilla.
In a very large bowl toss together the cereals and pretzels. Pour the chocolate mixture over top and stir until everything is well coated. Sift the powdered sugar over top, a half cup at a time, stirring so everything gets coated in the sugar. Stir in the M&Ms®. Serve!
Notes
- You can use any flavor of cereal.
- Feel free to swap in other types of candies.
